Description
Goals of This eCourse
Our goal for you in this course is to introduce you to the concepts of using white and varnish inks with your wide format printer. Not all printers have this capability, but those that do typically either have just white ink or a combination of white and varnish inks.
White ink cannot be made by combining the usual CMYK ink together, therefore, the printer manufacturer must supply a white and/or varnish ink supply to be used. These are quite different in nature from the typical CMYK inks. The white ink chemistry will require that the ink be circulated, or the ink cartridge be shaken to keep the white particles distributed. In the case of varnish inks, typical of a UV printer, the ink use will require specific settings in the driver of the printer so that the correct amounts are used prior to the curing process.
Since each manufacturer uses a different driver for these inks, it is quite impossible to discuss every option that must be used. We recommend you be in contact with your reseller to find out specifically what is needed in the driver settings. However, we will show you a couple of examples of driver options as a way of demonstrating a typical workflow.
In this course, we will focus on the software side of the equation for white inks. We will assist you with design considerations, and typical RIP options found in Flexi Production Manager. You will become familiar with the terminology used in this type of workflow and the concepts of using white inks for producing a job.
